Robust fixed structure output feedback flight control law synthesis and analysis using singular structured value

Abstract:
This work proposes a method to design a fixed structure output feedback flight control law, joining flying qualities criterion with robustness to structured and unstructured uncertainties in the design specifications. The contribution is a straightforward design method to find simple control laws that comply with these specifications, using the structured singular value formulation. The method is applied to a typical pitch axis control problem, and analyzed from the robust control theory standpoint and a flying qualities criterion as well. The results show that the control law designed considering the uncertainties can provide better performance robustness than the design for the nominal plant.
